The Writer is not simply a chair. It is a character.

Zura transforms the familiar form of a chair into an eccentric and theatrical figure: a writer with his own unmistakable personality. Wearing flip-flops and crowned with an oversized hat reminiscent of Napoleon, the figure carries an exaggerated haircut and expressive face that give him the appearance of an unconventional intellectual, an eccentric creator or perhaps a writer who has become one of his own characters?

There is humor in the figure, but also a sense of mystery. Why the Napoleon-like hat? Why the casual flip-flops? The contrast between the two creates the personality of The Writer: part serious thinker, part eccentric, part everyday man and entirely his own creation.

The work plays with the idea of the writer as an observer and storyteller: someone who sits, watches, imagines and creates entire worlds from a single thought. Zura turns that invisible creative process into a physical character. The chair becomes both the place where the writer sits and the writer himself.

With its expressive face, exaggerated proportions and raw sculptural language, The Writer exists between figurative sculpture, functional art, furniture and conceptual art. It is designed to be used as a chair, yet its presence is that of a collectible sculpture. An unexpected character that can inhabit an interior.

The work can be realized in bronze, metal, or other materials, allowing Zura’s distinctive character to be interpreted through different surfaces and finishes.
