Zura is a Georgian-born sculptor and multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges the traditions of classical figurative sculpture with the raw energy of contemporary expression. For more than twenty-five years, he has lived and worked in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where his studio has become the foundation of an expansive practice spanning sculpture, painting, collectible design, and functional art.
After more than fourteen years of formal training in sculpture and painting at the prestigious State Academy of Fine Art in Tbilisi, Georgia, Zura developed a deep respect for craftsmanship, anatomy, and material. This rigorous academic foundation is paired with an instinctive, experimental approach that embraces spontaneity, texture, and the expressive possibilities of every medium.
At the heart of Zura's practice is the human figure, often intertwined with animals and mythical creatures to explore instinct, transformation, strength, vulnerability, and the timeless narratives that shape human experience. His sculptures range from expressive female figures and powerful animal forms to monumental public works, each balancing classical beauty with emotional intensity and contemporary character.
Whether working in bronze, steel, brass, wood, resin, stone, or found materials, Zura approaches every project with curiosity and fearless experimentation. His paintings are defined by bold, gestural lines, rich texture, and expressive mark-making, while his sculptures deliberately preserve the artist's touch. Fingerprints, tool marks, and hand-worked surfaces remain visible, celebrating the physical process of making and giving each work a powerful sense of movement, authenticity, and raw energy.
Beyond sculpture and painting, Zura creates collectible furniture and functional artworks that blur the boundaries between fine art and design. Works such as Kolkheti Throne, a hand-welded solid brass chair, reflect his belief that craftsmanship, beauty, and artistic expression can inhabit everyday objects as naturally as monumental sculpture.
Zura's work has been acquired by notable private collectors, including Victor Niederhoffer, and has been exhibited throughout the United States. His public commissions include a monumental sculpture for the 2025 Pegasus World Cup, public installations in New York parks, and permanent sculptures throughout Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
