The work presents a male figure with with keys, extending from the form in place of hair. A distinctive and unexpected gesture that transforms the portrait into a deeply personal reflection on the idea of being a traveler.
The keys are drawn from Zura’s own life: keys to his car, his home, his studio and the places that have shaped his journey. Each key carries a connection to a particular place, memory or moment. Together, they become a metaphor for the experiences and chapters we carry with us, whether rooted in the past, present or yet to come.
In Traveler, Zura’s raw, primitive and expressive sculptural language meets a more conceptual idea. The figure becomes a reflection of the universal experience of carrying pieces of our lives wherever we go: materially, emotionally and spiritually.
The work invites a simple but enduring question: Are we all travelers? What keys do we carry and what doors do they open? And what doors still await us?
Part of Anatomy of Sculpture, Traveler continues Zura’s exploration of the human figure, personal experience, form and the stories embedded within objects.
