ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
At its core, Anatomy of Sculpture is an exhibition dedicated to the art and engineering of sculpture. True to its title, the show opens up the quiet work of the studio to explore how sculptural form is built from the ground up. Centered on themes of life and vitality, it features Zura’s complete body of work. From early pieces to his most recent creations, showcasing works fully realized alongside active pieces in progress.
From wire to cast, the exhibition takes visitors step-by-step through the physical journey of creation. By displaying the raw wire armatures, modeling clay, plaster molds, resin, and final metal casts alongside Zura's everyday tools, the show dissects the crucial steps, varied materials, and steady patience required at each stage.
Grounded in classical training and years of daily studio practice in Williamsburg, the exhibition shares the practical craft, technical discipline, and thought behind building three-dimensional form.
While sculpture remains the heartbeat of the show, the exhibition also presents a selection of Zura’s paintings and functional art furniture pieces, offering a complete look at how his sculptural approach to space, material, and structure carries over into other creative mediums.
Monograph Book Presentation
During the Opening Reception on September 25, we will also celebrate the presentation of the first edition monograph of Zura. This inaugural publication documents his journey, studio practice, and work across sculpture, painting, and functional design.
